Literally Millions of Exercises to practice With his book, Pocket Rhythms for Drums, Dirk Brand has written a little book with a lot of practice material with which each drummer can expand his groove vocabulary and further develop their independence in different musical styles. The book follows a building block concept: The pages are split up according to the four instruments of the drum kit (Hi-Hat, snare drum, bass drum and cymbals) and each section of the page can be turned individually. The exercises are printed on both sides of the page, so that when the player works through the book from front to back, they practice binary rhythms. When you flip the book around and work from back to front, the drummer finds a wealth of ternary rhythms. In this way, the book creates millions of practice combinations and the musician can decide for themselves how many elements they want to change per practice session. The styles of the grooves are wide ranging: from hip-hop and rock, to Latin, Funk, Pop, DrumnBass and Nu Metal nothing is left out. The author has recorded the exercises on the play-along CD in varying tempos. In the introduction, Dirk Brand explains the method of this book and uses pictures to explain how accents should be performed on the different instruments. Because the exercises start off easy and get steadily more difficult, this book is suitable for beginners as well as advanced players. Fact: This little A5 book is an excellent exercise tool to boost your creativity and can be used alongside other drumming courses.
